Providence Health & Services School Outreach Spring 2020 Internships - Medford in Medford, Oregon
Providence is calling undergraduate senior level college or university students to Spring 2020 internship opportunities within multiple departments in the Medford area.
Preference is given to applicants who are in the first generation of their families to attend college. For the purposes of these internship opportunities, this is defined as the applicant's parent/guardian has not earned a Bachelor's degree.
General Internship Description:
Interns will be responsible for completing specifically identified healthcare or systems related projects. The projects will be varied and are based on the needs of the participating departments, health system and communities we serve. Interns will be provided preceptor support along with clearly defined expectations for assigned work. Further details regarding exact departmental responsibilities will be provided after applicant screening process.
Clinical Support Department
The Clinical Support department is composed of a team of MBAs/MHAs, Nurses, Clinicians, Industrial & Systems Engineers, Project managers, Project facilitators, and Financial and Operational analysts. This team works with both Senior Leaders and front line staff on Business Development and Operational Improvement initiatives.
We have an exciting, unique Intern opportunity at Providence Medford Medical Center (PMMC). The Intern will work in the Clinical Support Department and will work closely on projects with stakeholders from departments including: Nursing Units, ED, Surgical Services, Endoscopy, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Finance, Clinics, and other Ancillary/Support departments.
Team member of PMMC’s high priority strategic initiatives
Assist with data collection and analysis
a. Work with stakeholders to identify current workflow and then document in Visio
b. Work with stakeholders to complete time study data collection and then analysis data with Excel to identify and portray trends
Assist with group facilitation to identify root cause(s) and appropriate solutions to implement
Assist with the development of project plans to implement solutions
Assist facilitators with project management
a. Maintain meeting minutes to track action items, as needed for workgroup meetings
b. Assist with creation of PowerPoint slide decks for executive report outs
- Proficient computer skills desired: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio (or ability to quickly learn)
Environmental Health and Safety
As an intern with Providence Health & Services and working in Medford, you will have the opportunity to experience the work of EHS professionals within the Healthcare Industry. Working directly with the Providence Medford Safety Manager, a major part of the internship will support compliance with Oregon OSHA Hazard Communication and Employee Safety Committee requirements. In addition, you will have an opportunity to network with other EHS professionals in Medford and throughout the region. The requirements are an interest in EHS careers and a desire to learn. Knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel are useful. Experience with data gathering and analysis is a bonus!
*Interns will not be providing direct patient care.

Length: One academic quarter/term 10-15 weeks. Maximum of 240 hours (please note, there is no guarantee of a full 240 hours, final schedule and hours are dependent on internship assignment)
Time Commitment: Be available 2-5 days per week, per term
Work Hours: Dependent on department, business hours are typical. Less than 20 hours per week.
Pay: $15/hr. Non-benefits eligible.
Start and end dates: March 30 - June 12, or once 240 hours have been completed.

Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma or equivalent -AND- completion of at least 3 years of post-secondary education
Must be enrolled in and working towards a post-secondary education
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Enrolled in a healthcare career, mental health, public health, social work degree program or related field
Experience working or volunteering to address health disparities
1 year of customer service experience
Medical terminology coursework experience
