Providence is calling a Laboratory Assistant 1 (Phlebotomist) to its Clinical Laboratory at Providence Medford Medical Center
in Medford, OR. This is an on-call/per diem position. We are seeking applicants who are available to work any day of the week and any shift (day, eve, or night). Our per diem staff are not guaranteed hours but with good availability may be able to pick up full-time hours. We offer a 15% (of base hourly pay), pay premium for ever hour worked and offer great shift pay incentives for applicable evening and night shift hours.

We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant 1 who will be responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results. Support personnel work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duty.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Demonstrate competency in compliance by carrying out personal responsibilities required by the PH&S Laboratory Compliance
Plan, including annual training.
Maintain knowledge of numerous complex dynamic compliance requirements
Ensure compliance is met with various Federal, State and other regulatory bodies which includes, but is not limited to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), CAP, TJC (The Joint Commission), CLIA, EMTALA, COBRA and HIPPA.
Understand specimen collection and handling requirements, general laboratory workflow and basic medical terminology
Accurately follow policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, referrals, reporting, filing, and/or recording patient results
Use basic computer skills to access appropriate HIS/LIS information
Recognize problems and identifies discrepancies, specimen integrity issues and is able to troubleshoot, resolve and document variances
Verify patient information and specimen requirements
Document and accurately receive, process and distribute specimens to assure proper preservation of samples and timely analysis and reporting of results
Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and Service Excellence skills, utilizing key words at key times
Promptly and accurately document basic specimen, patient, or client problems using the appropriate forms, logs, etc.
Complete written variances to ensure continuous quality improvement
Participate in department QA projects as requested or required
Complete assigned tasks, meeting section turn-around-times.
Understand and supports departmental goals
Respond to basic laboratory questions with accurate and complete information and refers questions appropriately
Adhere to PH&S and departmental policies and procedures
Required qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
One (1) year Healthcare or related field experience, or a combination of applicable experience and education
Demonstrated outstanding Service Excellence experience.
Clerical or client services experience.
Phlebotomy may be required in float pool and some ministries.
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Associate's Degree -OR- two (2) years college education
Graduation from a Clinical Laboratory Assistant program or Phlebotomy program
Certification from an approved government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (ASCP, NCA, etc.)
Certification in phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, or clinical laboratory
Industry related experience in a high volume, acute care setting
Two (2) years Phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, clinical laboratory experience
Job experience in specimen collection, specimen preparation and equipment operation, pneumatic tubes systems and other laboratory equipment.
