Providence Endoscopy Technician (32 hours per week) in Medford, Oregon
Providence is calling an Endoscopy Technician to its Gastro-Intestinal Services team at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This is a part-time position offering 32 hours per week (4, 8 hour shifts per week). Scheduled day shift hours vary, Monday-Friday. You will also participate in the team's standby/call schedule. Candidates with experience in GI Services or who have patient care experience within an inpatient environment are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking an Endoscopy Technician who will perform all endoscopic and electrodiagnostic procedures as directed by the physician. Ensures that the department's equipment and instruments are in the proper operating condition.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Ensure quality patient care:
Provide kind, gentle, respectful and safe patient care
Plan and provide for patient/family education prior to the start of procedures
When assisting a physician, strive to help to the best of his/her ability, volunteering suggestions when applicable and anticipating needs to facilitate the best study possible
Observe and report patient changes appropriately to physician
Report any patient care problems or unusual occurrences to department Coordinator, and assists in the resolution
Maintain accurate medical record documentation, and all files needed in the day-to-day operations of the department
Serve as a patient advocate
Provide endoscopic procedures according to departmental policies and procedures:
Proficient in set-up, assisting and troubleshooting in all endoscopic procedures
Upper endoscopy including biopsy, polypectomy, bicap, sclerotherapy, dilatations, GI Bleeds, varicose banding ligation, foreign body removal, etc.
Colonoscopy including biopsy, polypectomy, bicap, colon decompression; foreign body removal, cautery, etc.
Sigmoidoscopy including biopsy, polypectomy, bicap, cautery, etc.
ERCP procedures including stent placements; stone removals, balloon dilatation, lithotripsy, etc.
Special endoscopic procedures including:
ERBE (Argon Plasma Coagulator Procedure)
Metal Expandable Stent Placement
Endoscopic Clip Fixing Procedure, etc.
Bronchoscopy including biopsy, brushing, washing, etc.
Demonstrate proficiency in handling test specimens e.g., proper labeling and number specimens, correct lab orders and transporting specimens to the laboratory
Proficient in performing miscellaneous procedures in Fiberoptics/Endoscopy Lab:
Breath Hydrogen Test.
24-hour pH probe placement and downloading of data
Ensure appropriate maintenance and operation of all the department’s technological equipment and instruments:
Perform preventive maintenance on endoscopes and accessories according to manufacturers’ and accreditation agency’s standards
Clean, disinfect and/or sterilize all re-usable equipment according to JCAHO standards
Maintain equipment storage area in an orderly manner and ensures that equipment is stored in a manner that protects it from any damage
Order and stock adequate supplies for all procedures from Central Services, Materials Management and Pharmacy, as well as, off-site vendors
Keep procedure and processing room and reception areas neat, clean and orderly
Transport patients within the hospital and provide assistance with moving to and from exam tables, gurneys, beds and wheelchairs:
Transport patients to and from department via gurneys, beds and wheelchairs
Assist in safety, moving patients from beds, gurneys and wheelchairs to exam tables
Provide good judgment in patient’s ability to stand and move from transport devices to exam tables, so as not to cause injury to patient or self
Ask for assistance, to transport patients when beyond one’s physical ability
Participate in body mechanics class each year
Demonstrate knowledge of transporting patient on gurney or wheelchair with indwelling Foley® Catheters, NG tubes, PICC line, etc., as well as with O2, and IV’s
Work as a positive member to promote teamwork and quality:
Work as a team member and support other by action
Promote a positive team attitude and seeks improvement in total quality through team efforts
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
Two (2) years hospital experience in general Endoscopy procedures
